Mumbai face Pune-based DSK Shivajians in a tie that is labeled as the Maharashtra Derby which sees the only teams from Maharashtra clash in the I-League. Bragging rights for regional superiority are up for grabs in the clash to be held at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.
Mumbai will be pumped for a victory after they came agonizingly close to a first win in 11 games when they drew against Mohun Bagan away in Kolkata. The Mumbaikars put in a resilient performance on the evening at the famed Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. Mumbai were leading 2-1 up to the 88th minute and headed for a much-needed win but Balwant Singh grabbed the equalizer from a Sony Norde cross to make matters level frustrating Mumbai further.
Mumbai coach Santosh Kashyap will hope his side continue their gritty performance from Kolkata and replicate the showing in Pune for a win. The side will be further boosted by the return of fan favorites centre back Pratik Chaudhari and winger extraordinaire Steven Dias. Both the players are back in the side after few discrepancies with the manager a few weeks back saw them being sidelined.
The game against Bagan saw defender Lalchawnkima return to play as he started the game on the left wing alongside the solid centre back pairing of Mehrajudin Wadoo and Djelaludin Sharityar. The game also saw the return of Victorino Fernandes to the starting lineup who grabbed the second goal with a clinical finish. Mumbai will be counting on him and Baljit Sahni to be amongst the goals in Pune to secure the three points.
DSK Shivajians are in a slight slump with no wins in their last five games. They lost to the table toppers Aizawl FC at home in the last round which saw Aizawl score a late winner. DSK will go all guns blazing to resurrect their season and get back to winning ways. Mumbai will have to brace themselves for a tough fixture away from home.
The reverse fixture at Cooperage had Mumbai win comfortably with a 1-0 scoreline thanks to a Thoi Singh screamer from 20 yards.
Both the teams are positioned in the lower half of the table with DSK Shivajians at the seventh position with a tally of 11 points in 13 games played. Mumbai, on the other hand are languishing at the bottom of the table with 10 points from 13 matches with the danger of relegation looming over them.
