Mumbai Reserves came into their fixture against Millat FC from Oshiwara unbeaten with 3 wins out of 3 games. The lads stayed on course with a well-earned victory putting in an inspiring second half performance after being down 0-1 early in the first half. Mumbai won 3-1 after three great goals in quick succession in the second half keeping them atop the Group standings in the MDFA Super Division.
Coach Arshad Hussain put out a strong side to counter the Millat side known to play a physical game. The attack was led by skipper Yogesh Kadam with Aditya Dalvi in support up front. The midfield included Azfar Noorani, Joel Dias, Sudhakar Ranjan and Sohail Khatri. The defence line was led by the Umesh Perambra, who returned from his stint with Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy. He had Pankaj Mishra, Noel Dias and Chinmay Todkari to help out in defense. Ubaid Ali helmed the goal with his strong vocal presence guiding the defense.
The Mumbai coach was critical of the MDFA's scheduling arrangements, "The team arrived at 7pm for the match scheduled at 8:30pm. The game began at 10:15pm. This is very poor from the MDFA. My boys had been hungry for quite a while. Hope the situation improves in future."
The game began with Mumbai keeping control of possession in midfield and looking for holes in the Millat defense. Millat were up to the task with their compact defense denying Mumbai any inroads into their box. Millat's persistence proved fruitful as they were rewarded with a goal from counter-attack early in the first half.
The entire first half after the goal saw Mumbai barrage the MIllat defense with a large number of chances being created by Mumbai. Aditya Dalvi came close to scoring from a header when a corner was put in by Sudhakar Ranjan but the header drifted wide off the post. Skipper Yogesh Kadam too came close on a couple of occasions to levelling but Millat dealt with the Mumbai attack. The first half ended with Millat leading 1-0 thanks to the early goal.
Mumbai went into the second half with hopes of scoring early to level the tie. The hope came true very soon as Mumbai drew level from a corner. Sudhakar Ranjan put in a good corner and Umesh Perambra rose high and headed in a powerful shot that blasted the back of the net. Mumbai were level and brimming with confidence and it showed on the field as attacks increased on the Millat goal.
Mumbai took the lead soon when a great move from a freekick was finished off by the captain Yogesh Kadam. Mumbai quickly tripled their lead when a scramble of sorts left Aditya Dalvi with a chance at an open goal and the striker made no mistake as he finished clinically to make it 3-1 on the night. Millat FC were left frustrated and showed their feelings on the ground with tackles flying all over the pitch as the referee struggled to keep the game in order. The match ended with Mumbai winning 3-1 keeping their unbeaten run intact. The win was a perfect gift for the Mumbai Reserves assistant coach Siddeshwar Shinde who had his birthday.
